The Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope

LAT Target of Opportunity Observations

The GLAST Project Scientist (or his/her designee) may declare a Target-of-Opportunity (TOO) observation if warranted. Note that in survey mode the LAT will accumulate the equivalent of 30 minutes of on-axis exposure every 3 hours for every point on the sky, and thus a pointed TOO observation may provide little additional scientific benefit.

The Project Scientist will consult with the GSSC regarding the feasibility and impact of a TOO observation. The TOO observation will be implemented within 6 hours after the Project Scientist authorizes the observation; most likely the actual time will be much shorter. Not all TOO observations will need to be implemented as soon as possible, and you may request implementation during the next business day.

After launch you will be able to submit TOO requests through the Remote Proposal System (RPS) webform that will be linked here.
